The Boar's Head and Yule Log Festival is performed every year on the Sunday closest to Epiphany. The St. John's festival started in 1961.
The Boar is a symbol of evil. The serving of the Boar's Head represents the triumph of Christ over evil. The Yule Log, lit from last year's embers, symbolizes the rekindling of love. The first recorded festival dates back to 1320 at Queen's College (Oxford), but it also remained a popular Christmas celebration in the great manor houses of England through the 17th century.
Our pageant involves over 100 members of the parish — plus professional and volunteer musicians. There are two performances and a delicious roast beef dinner prepared by parishioners. This pageant is an offering of praise to Jesus Christ, our Lord.
