Red Door Pantry Looks Ahead to 2009

Early in December our Red Door Pantry received a generous gift that makes this Christmas Season especially joyful and prospects for the New Year very optimistic.

Thanks to the determined efforts of David Sabine, Senior Vice President and Trust Officer of Huntington Bank, the Frank and Pearl Gelbman Foundation donated $2000 to our Red Door Pantry fund. (David and Madelon Sabine were received as new members of St. John's by the Bishop in June.)

This major gift will make it possible for our Pantry to obtain food from Second Harvest through most of the first half of 2009. And it also anticipates a growing number of needy inner-city families coming to our door during that time. With the national and local economy in dire straits, the likelihood of greater need for food seems almost guaranteed.

That leaves the second half of the New Year unfunded. So the Pantry will need to seek additional grants from local trusts and foundations. We thank you and hope for the continuation of your generous contributions with nonperishable food gifts as well as monetary donation. Our work in hunger's vineyard is just beginning.

Our pantry food distribution schedule is set for the New Year. It starts on Saturday, December 27 and will continue throughout 2009 on the last Saturday of each month.

If you wish to help in this effort by filling bags of food, picking up food at Second Harvest, or helping to distribute food bags, please call the church office: 330-743-3175.

Have a glorious Christmas and a happy, healthy New Year!
